Stoat was rebranded from Revolt on October 1st, 2025 as a result of a cease and desist[1]. The party who submitted the cease and desist has not been disclosed, in order to avoid compromising communications with them.

In initial stages of the rebrand, the name Furor was planned. It got as far as a logo stage before It was ultimately deemed unsuitable, prompting an internal survey including the names Stoat, Schism, Vulp, Glowbug, and Pipit. The name Stoat was chosen as a result of the survey.

Alongside the rebrand, the new For Web client was officially launched, as was the new LiveKit-based voice chat system. The new LiveKit-based voice chat system was not initially usable, due to issues running it in the production deployment.
