Guilded was a platform catered towards gamers.

History

Guilded was initially released in 2017, but came out of beta in 2020^[1]. It was created as a personal project by Eli Brown, a former Xbox and Facebook employee. It first appeared on r/wow subreddit as a communication tool for World of Warcraft players. In 2021, it was announced on platform's blog that Guilded was joining Roblox after being acquired for $90M, but that it would remain an independent platform. In July 2024, however, a requirement was set that all accounts must be connected to Roblox. This caused a lot of backlash, including the shutdown of ReGuilded, a Guilded modification project. On September 29th, 2025, it was announced that Guilded was to be shut down on December 19 of the same year^[2]^[3]. Not long after, an export tool^[4] was published for users to preserve their servers. The service was sunset on the 19th of December, 2025.

Features

Compared to other chat applications, Guilded boasts an incredibly wide set of features. When creating a server, after choosing a name and (optionally) an avatar, users get to choose what games the community of said server plays. After which, Guilded suggests choosing the location and the platform on which the games are played by the members.

After configuring the games, the creator could choose the server type and time zone. Servers types included:

Guilded had a wide selection of channel types:

Chat
Streaming
Voice
Calendar
Schedule
Announcements
Forums
List
Docs
Media

Channels could be public (visible to anyone) or private (visible only to server members).

Among other neat things, Guilded servers could include groups (commonly known as "sub-servers"), a built-in levelling system, ability to import a Discord server template, Twitch, and Patreon integrations. Guilded also had server subscriptions with three tiers: bronze, silver, and gold, but they were discontinued when it was announced that Guilded will shut down.

Interface

Guilded had two interfaces: Simplified and Legacy

Simplified interface was introduced after Guilded's full release. It's more close to traditional chat app interfaces, such as of Discord or Slack. The right side has a pane with channels, groups, pinned servers, direct messages and user information. Upon clicking the "All servers" button next to user info, the main elements slide to the right, revealing the server list, as well as buttons for creating a new server, accessing the discovery, direct messages, user profile, and a search field. The interface soon after became the default.
Legacy interface is the original Guilded look, used in Beta builds. It featured a unified panel on the bottom of the app. The buttons for discovery, direct messages, etc. were on the left side of the bar, in the middle were the servers, and on the right - the user information. Users could enable it in Settings ⇾ Advanced before March 17, 2025, when it was fully superseded by the simplified view.
